Pregnancy, birth, neonatal, and postnatal neurological outcomes after pregnancy with migraine
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain Jul 16, 2019
Skajaa N, et al. - Researchers examined how maternal migraine is associated with risks of adverse pregnancy outcomes in the mother, and birth, neonatal and postnatal outcomes in the offspring. Data of a cohort of 22,841 pregnancies among women with migraine and an age- and conception year-matched comparison cohort of 228,324 pregnancies among women without migraine were retrieved using Danish population registries. The analysis revealed an increased risk of pregnancy-associated hypertension disorders and miscarriage in correlation to migraine. The prevalence of low birth weight, preterm birth, and cesarean delivery were higher in pregnancies among women with migraine. Exposure to maternal migraine led to elevated risks of several outcomes in the neonatal and postnatal period among offspring, including intensive care unit admission, hospitalization, dispensed prescriptions, respiratory distress syndrome, and febrile seizures
