Pregnancy, birth, neonatal, and postnatal neurological outcomes after pregnancy with migraine
Headache: The Journal of Head and Face Pain May 14, 2019
Skajaa N, et al. - Using Danish population registries, researchers assembled a cohort of pregnancies among women with migraine (n=22,841) and an age- and conception year-matched comparison cohort of pregnancies among women without migraine (n=228,324) to assess how maternal migraine influences the pregnancy outcomes in the mother, and birth, neonatal and postnatal outcomes in the offspring. Observations revealed correlation of migraine with an increased risk of pregnancy-associated hypertension disorders and miscarriage, an increased prevalence of low birth weight, preterm birth and cesarean delivery. Prenatal exposure to maternal migraine was associated with elevated risks of several outcomes in the neonatal and postnatal period among offsprings. These comprised elevated risks for intensive care unit admission, hospitalization, dispensed prescriptions, respiratory distress syndrome, and febrile seizures, but not of death and cerebral palsy.
