Pregnancy after 24 postoperative months of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass presents risk of pregnancy complications similar to pregnancy within the first postoperative year
Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism Jul 14, 2019
Cruz S, et al. - In this analytical, longitudinal and retrospective study, researchers studied 42 pregnant women who had previously undergone Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB), to know how maternal-infant complications are influenced by the time interval between pregnancy and the RYGB. The participants were subdivided based on the time interval between pregnancy and bariatric surgery: ≤12 months (G1), >12 and <24 months (G2) and ≥24 months (G3). According to the findings, the predisposition to maternal-infant complications was less in pregnancies occurring in the time interval of >12 and <24 months. In addition, pregnancies occurring after 24 months, compared with those occurring before the first 12 postoperative months, can be equally harmful, because great catabolism occurs at this time-a finding in the literature.
