Pregabalin to improve postoperative recovery in bariatric surgery: A parallel, randomized, double-blinded, placebo-controlled study
Journal of Pain Research Oct 25, 2018
Martins MJ, et al. - As postoperative pain is a frequent problem in the postoperative management of patients undergoing bariatric surgery, so researchers evaluated the effect of a single dose of preoperative pregabalin vs placebo on postoperative recovery via a randomized, placebo-controlled, double-blinded trial. They randomly assigned 70 patients undergoing abdominal gastroplasty to receive oral pregabalin (75 mg) or an identical placebo 1 hour before surgery. Outcomes suggest that these patients achieved no improvement in pain relief, quality of postoperative recovery, or opioid consumption using a single preoperative dose of pregabalin (75 mg).
