Preferred self-administered questionnaires to assess depression, anxiety and somatization in people with musculoskeletal pain – A modified Delphi study
The Journal of Pain Sep 06, 2019
Bijker L, et al. - Via performing this study, researchers conducted a Delphi study to reach consensus (ie, ≥ 75% agreement) on the most relevant and feasible self-administered questionnaires that can be used to assess depression, anxiety, and somatization in people with musculoskeletal pain (such as low back pain or neck pain) at risk for the development or maintenance of persistent pain. Following the different rounds of this study, the consensus was reached for eight instruments among a multidisciplinary panel of international experts (N = 22). For depression, the consensus was reached for the following questionnaires: Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Beck Depression Inventory-II, Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale, and Depression Subscale of the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales. For anxiety the consensus was reached for Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7, State and Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale. For somatization, they made no recommendation. Validation of a few of these questionnaires in patients with MSK pain was done.
