Preferred self-administered questionnaires to assess depression, anxiety and somatization in people with musculoskeletal pain – A modified Delphi study
The Journal of Pain Oct 26, 2019
Bijker L, et al. - In view of the observation that the recovery of people with musculoskeletal pain is influenced by depression, anxiety, and somatization, a Delphi study was performed to determine the most preferred self-administered questionnaires that may assist in assessing these psychosocial factors in people at risk of developing persistent musculoskeletal pain. Via PubReMiner, a multidisciplinary panel of 22 international experts was identified who suggested 24 questionnaires in Round 1. Based on suitability, the questionnaires were rated by the experts in Round 2; they considered clinimetrics, content, feasibility, personal experiences, and expertise. In Round 3, highest-ranked questionnaires were retained and the experts made a final assessment of the suitability of the questionnaires. For depression, consensus (ie, ≥ 75% agreement) was reached for Patient Health Questionnaire-9, Beck Depression Inventory-II, Center for Epidemiological Studies-Depression Scale, and Depression Subscale of the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scales. In addition, consensus reached for the Depression Subscale of the Hospital Anxiety Depression Scale in the sensitivity analyses. For anxiety, consensus reached for Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale-7, State and Trait Anxiety Inventory, and Pain Anxiety Symptoms Scale. For somatization, they made no recommendation.
