Preeclampsia and long‐term health outcomes for mother and infant: An umbrella review

BJOG: An International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Mar 03, 2021

Pittara T, Vyrides A, Lamnisos D, et al. - From inception to July 2020, PubMed, EMBASE, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science were searched to compile evidence on the connection between preeclampsia (PE) and long-term health outcomes in women and/or infants. Twenty‐one articles involved (90 associations). Seventy‐nine associations had nominally statistically significant findings, while 65 associations had large or very large heterogeneity. Many meta‐analyses in this area have caveats casting doubts on their reliability. According to current evidence, after PE, women are more likely to develop cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and dyslipidaemia, and offspring exposed to PE are more likely to develop attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder.
