Predictors of weight gain in a cohort of premenopausal early breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy
The Breast Apr 29, 2019
Gandhi A, et al. - Because post-chemotherapy weight gain was associated with increased risk of cancer recurrence in breast cancer patients, researchers looked forward to a cohort of premenopausal women receiving contemporary chemotherapy following a breast cancer diagnosis to examine weight gain predicting factors. There were data available from 380 patients. No link was noted to amenorrhoea induced by chemotherapy regimens, cigarette smoking, previous parity or chemotherapy. Nearly a third of premenopausal patients receiving adjuvant chemotherapy for breast cancer will gain clinically significant weight, and 12 months after diagnosis, more than 40% will have central obesity. Lower pretreatment BMI predicts a greater weight gain.
