Predictors of walking ability after surgery for lumbar spinal canal stenosis: A prospective study
The Spine Journal Nov 06, 2019
Takenaka H, Sugiura H, Kamiya M, et al. - In this prospective study, individuals with lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) were consecutively involved and evaluated preoperatively (n = 113) and 6 months postoperatively (n = 78) in order to clarify objective predictors of postoperative 6-minute walk distance (6MWD) in individuals with LSS and to generate prediction equations. For 6 months postoperative 6MWD, younger age, lower body weight, one level operative segment, decompression surgery, and superior preoperative scores for trunk extensor strength and 6MWD prognosticated better scores. Moreover, a preoperative decrease in body weight and improvement of trunk extensor strength could be related to increased postoperative 6MWD scores.
