Predictors of vaginal delivery after cervical ripening using a synthetic osmotic dilator
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Feb 07, 2020
Saad AF, et al. - Researchers investigated women undergoing cervical ripening with a synthetic osmotic dilator (Dilapan-S) prior to induction of labor for the determinants of vaginal delivery and safety. Data from an international multicenter prospective observational study of Dilapan-S for cervical ripening in pregnancies greater than 32 weeks were derived for this secondary analysis. From May 2015 to July 2016, inclusion of 444 pregnant women was done. Of these, 310 (70%) delivered vaginally. Prior vaginal delivery and post Dilapan-S Bishop scores were identified to be strong predictors of vaginal delivery after adjusting for age, BMI, number of dilators, cervical ripening time, and gestational age. When post Dilapan-S Bishop scores were ≥ 5, the lower confidence interval limit of vaginal delivery rates was above 50%.
