Predictors of survival outcomes in sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma: An analysis of the National Cancer Database
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology May 31, 2021
Farrell NF, Mace JC, Detwiller KY, et al. - Researchers assessed treatment results for patients suffering from sinonasal squamous cell carcinoma (SNSCC). Participants were selected from the National Cancer Data Base. Overall 3,516 eligible SNSCC cases were analyzed. Post-multifactorial adjustments, improved overall survival (OS) was reported in relation to multimodality therapy, including surgical intervention. Induction chemotherapy (IC) followed by surgery was found to be related to improved OS vs IC, followed by chemoradiation therapy (CRT) and CRT alone. Surgery as an option holds utility toward optimizing OS in patients with SNSCC, as emphasized by findings of this study. Also, IC was shown to have potential utility when primary surgical treatment is not preferred.
