Predictors of survival in neurometastatic Merkel cell carcinoma
European Journal of Cancer Aug 23, 2018
Harary M, et al. - Researchers performed this retrospective study to determine predicative factors for overall survival (OS) in neurometastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) managed operatively and non-operatively. They noted a survival benefit could be seen with resection of MCC brain metastasis (BM) in an appropriately selected patient population. A lower intracranial burden of disease (BoD), but similar systemic BoD, was reported in relation to operative management. Risk-unadjusted analysis revealed an OS benefit conferred by neurosurgery, having RT and having a single BM. Controlling for age, BoD and radiotherapy, only neurosurgical resection was identified as an independent predictor of OS.
