Predictors of smoking cessation in patients with rheumatoid arthritis in two cohorts: Healthcare factors most predictive
Arthritis Care & Research Mar 09, 2020
Schletzbaum M, et al. - This study seeks to investigate individual and healthcare level predictors of smoking cessation in individuals with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to guide the implementation of smoking cessation interventions. Between 2005 and 2016, electronic health record data from two health systems were extracted for individuals with at least two ICD diagnosis codes for RA. Researchers applied multivariable logistic regression to ascertain predictors of smoking cessation. A total of 3,577 individuals were recruited in this study. In individuals with RA, healthcare factors, involving health system and being new to rheumatology care, were more predictive of smoking cessation than individual sociodemographic factors, implying an important role for health system cessation efforts for individuals with RA.
