Predictors of satisfactory outcomes with fixed-bearing lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: Up to 7-year follow-up
Journal of Arthroplasty Nov 11, 2020
Xue H, Ma T, Wen T, et al. - This study was intended to present short to mid-term efficacy and assess predictors of better outcome following lateral unicompartmental knee arthroplasty (UKA). Researchers retrospectively examined a total of 248 patients (260 knees) who had undergone lateral UKA from January 2013, with a mean 5-year follow-up. Multivariate regression analyses were performed to evaluate the relationship between these factors with a satisfactory outcome. Kaplan-Meier analysis was applied to calculate implant survival. The results of this study demonstrate that following lateral UKA, postoperative outcomes were satisfactory in patients with lower ASA scores, diagnosis with primary OA, higher preoperative Hospital for Special Surgery scores, and those with postoperative valgus alignment. It is important to understand these relationships to guide appropriate patient selection to obtain optimal function after lateral UKA.
