Predictors of residual tricuspid regurgitation after percutaneous closure of atrial septal defect

European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Imaging Jun 21, 2018

Nassif M, et al. - In this observational study involving adult patients (26% male, age 49 ± 17 years) who had both successful percutaneous atrial septal defect (ASD) closure and pre- and post-procedural echocardiography, researchers developed a prediction model to identify patients with residual moderate/severe tricuspid regurgitation (TR) after percutaneous ASD closure. They found that the proposed risk model enabled the detection of patients who had successful percutaneous ASD closure with unlikely TR regression. They also observed that, following percutaneous ASD closure, a substantial improvement in TR, parallel to the reduction of volume-overload and reverse remodeling was evident, despite significant TR at baseline.
