Predictors of post-stroke fever and infections: A systematic review and meta-analysis
BMC Neurology | Apr 27, 2018
Wastfelt M, et al. - Researchers examined the premise that, since they varied in terms of etiology, pneumonia, urinary tract infection and all-cause fever (possibly including at least some proportion of endogenous fever) had different predicting factors. Age, male sex, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS), dysphagia, nasogastric tube, diabetes, mechanical ventilation, smoking, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and atrial fibrillation all predicted post-stroke pneumonia. UTI seems to be more common in women. There was a lack of studies studying a wide range of predictors for UTI or all-cause fever.
