Gastrointestinal Endoscopy Sep 12, 2017
Grossberg LB, et al. - In this study, experts sought to define the incidence and relatedness of emergency department (ED) visits within 7 days of colonoscopy, and to identify predictors of post-colonoscopy ED use. After the colonoscopy, factors associated with increased ED use were increased patient complexity, higher endoscopist adenoma detection rate (ADR), and endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR). Patients at high risk for unplanned hospital visit within 7 days needed to be targeted for quality improvement efforts to reduce adverse events and cost.
