Predictors of persistent wheat allergy in children: A retrospective cohort study
International Archives of Allergy and Immunology Jun 09, 2018
Koike Y, et al. - Researchers investigated the predictors of persistent wheat allergy in this retrospective cohort study. They used the oral food challenge (OFC) method to evaluate the rate of tolerance acquisition among Japanese children aged less than 6 years with an immediate-type wheat allergy. On the basis of OFC results, two groups were formed: “tolerant” (tolerance acquired by 6 years of age) and “allergic” (tolerance not acquired by 6 years of age). They identified that the following factors offered risk for persistent wheat allergy in this study population: a history of anaphylaxis to all foods including wheat and/or a high level of wheat- or ω-5 gliadin-specific immunoglobulin E antibodies.
