Predictors of neutrophil extracellular traps markers in type 2 diabetes mellitus: Associations with a prothrombotic state and hypofibrinolysis
Cardiovascular Diabetology Apr 21, 2019
Bryk AH, et al. - In this cross-sectional analysis of 113 type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) patients aged 63.7 ± 8.2 years, researchers assessed predictive factors of neutrophil extracellular traps formation (NETosis) and cell death markers in circulating blood as well as their link to a prothrombotic state. Glycated hemoglobin ≥ 7.0% and interleukin-6 were identified as predictors of high citrullinated histone H3 (H3Cit) (≥ 7.36 ng/mL, upper quartile) in multivariate logistic regression analysis, adjusted for age and gender. Plasma clot lysis time was predicted by H3Cit and cell-free deoxyribonucleic acid, along with plasminogen activator inhibitor-1 and concomitant cardiovascular disease, in multivariable analysis adjusted for potential confounders. Overall, an inflammatory state and a prothrombotic state, particularly hypofibrinolysis, was observed in relation to NETosis being measurable in circulating blood in T2DM patients.
