Predictors of mortality of influenza virus infections in a Swiss Hospital during four influenza seasons: Role of quick sequential organ failure assessment
European Journal of Internal Medicine Jan 08, 2020
Papadimitriou-Olivgeris M, Gkikopoulosa N, Wüst M, et al. - Experts involved adult individuals with influenza infection at the Hospital of Jura, Switzerland during four influenza seasons (2014/15 to 2017/18) in order to discover predictors of mortality among people with influenza infections and to determine the role of quick Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (qSOFA) in prognosticating poor consequences. Among 1,684 influenza virus tests done, 441 individuals with influenza infections were involved. The majority of infections were community-onset. It was found that qSOFA performed similarly to particular severity scores (Pneumonia Severity Index, CURB-65) in prognosticating mortality. Moreover, infection by influenza A virus, respiratory insufficiency and malnutrition were correlated with a worse prognosis.
