Predictors of mortality in patients with COPD after 9 years
International Journal of COPD Oct 25, 2018
Prudente R, et al. - In patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) after 9 years, researchers evaluated the predictors of mortality via analyzing 133 patients with COPD at baseline by spirometry, pulse oximetry (SpO2), body composition, intensity of dyspnea, distance walked in the 6-minute walk test, and Charlson Comorbidity Index (CCI). By evaluating the predictors of mortality in patients with COPD in a 9-year period, they identified that those with high Body Mass Index, Airway Obstruction, Dyspnea, and Exercise capacity (BODE) index, greater CCI, higher frequency of exacerbations in the first 3 years, and body mass index ≤ 21 kg/m2 showed increased risk of death.
