Predictors of local recurrence in patients with myxofibrosarcoma
American Journal of Clinical Oncology Aug 29, 2018
Odei B, et al. - Researchers sought to determine the predictors of local recurrence (LR) in myxofibrosarcoma (MFS). For this purpose, they performed a retrospective review of 52 MFS patients (median age 65 years) treated at their institution between 1999 and 2015. with a focus on treatment outcomes. These cases were followed-up for a median of 2.9 years. The categories of tumors were: ≤5 cm (35%), >5 cm (56%), or unknown size (9%). The estimated 3-year actuarial LR, distant metastasis, and overall survival were: 31%, 15%, and 87%, respectively. Findings revealed a significant association of older age and positive/close margins with a higher risk of LR in these patients.
