Zhang D, et al. - During thyroid surgery, experts identified the predictors related to graft function after parathyroid autotransplantation. They noted a probability that in the early postoperative period a functional recovery in an autografted parathyroid gland may be stimulated by low serum calcium levels. Hence, for patients who underwent parathyroid autotransplantation during the early stage after total thyroidectomy a moderate calcium supplement strategy was recommended.
