Predictors of emergency department attendance by people with dementia in their last year of life: Retrospective cohort study using linked clinical and administrative data
Alzheimer's & Dementia Aug 26, 2017
Sleeman KE et al. – This retrospective study analyzed the frequency and identified the predictors of emergency department (ED) attendance among 4867 patients with dementia during their last year of life. About 78.6% patients had at least one ED attendance during their last year of life (mean 2.13), which gradually increased with time. As there is an increase in prevalence of ED attendance in the last year of life for people with dementia, attention should be paid to a broader range of indicators of poor end–of–life care in addition to the place of death.
