Predictors of discharge destination in patients with major traumatic injury: Analysis of Oklahoma Trauma Registry
The American Journal of Surgery Dec 14, 2018
Khorgami Z, et al. - Researchers investigated the predictors of discharge to a facility with a multivariate analysis of the Oklahoma Trauma Registry (OTR) 2005-2013. In addition, they developed a predictive scoring model and evaluated positive and negative predictive values (PPV and NPV) for 2014 patients. In total, they analyzed 101,656 patients. Observations revealed that the need for discharge to a facility could be predicted assessing age, severity of trauma, type of injuries, and comorbidities in trauma patients. A scoring model including these factors can predict discharge outcomes. For predicting discharge to a facility, PPV and NPV were 84.9% for scores≥15, and 90.5% for scores<8, respectively, when the model was applied to 2014 patients.
