Alavi M, et al. - Researchers planned this work to delineate the bowel function in long-term rectal cancer survivors with anastomosis. They identified an association of low tumor location, radiation therapy, temporary ostomy during initial treatment, and history of smoking with decreased long-term bowel function following an anastomosis. These results seemed helpful in improving decision-making about surgical options.
