Predictors of adverse outcomes in free flap reconstruction: A single-institution experience

Farquhar DR, et al. - Experts ascertained the independent predictors of major complications, flap survival, and extended hospital stays. Age ≥60 years, revision surgery, and a prior neck dissection were the independent predictors of major complications. Revision surgery and the use of a plate were the independent predictors of flap failure. Findings suggested an independent association of revision surgery with a longer stay, and the use of a radial forearm flap was associated with a shorter stay. In revision flap surgery for patients with prior neck operations, and patients aged ≥60 years, caution was warrented.
