Choy W, et al. - The experts sought to assess readmission rates and predictors of readmission following posterior cervical fusion (PCF). The identified rate of 30-day readmission was 6.20%. Significant predictors of hospital readmission included age older than 70 years, renal failure requiring dialysis, anemia, multilevel fusion, surgical site infections, wound dehiscence, postoperative pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, and progressing renal insufficiency. Preoperative optimization could benefit the subjects with modifiable risk factors such as anemia and kidney failure. Also, postoperative complications presented as the main target for intervention.
