Predictors and outcomes of recurrent venous thromboembolism in elderly patients
American Journal of Medicine Jan 10, 2018
Lauber S, et al. - The authors explored the predictors and outcomes of recurrent venous thromboembolism in elderly subjects. A significant long-term risk of recurrent venous thromboembolism was found in the study cohort. Herein, recurrence carried a high case-fatality rate. Only two factors, unprovoked venous thromboembolism and proximal deep vein thrombosis, exhibited an independent link with recurrent venous thromboembolism. This data pointed out that traditional risk factors for venous thromboembolism recurrence (e.g., cancer) were possibly less relevant in the elderly.
