Predictors and characteristics of opioid utilization >15 days following total knee arthroplasty (tka)
Journal of Arthroplasty Mar 26, 2020
Consson AM, et al. - This research seeks to ascertain predictors of ongoing opioid use >15 days post-total knee arthroplasty (TKA) and those individuals prescribed >1350 morphine milligram equivalents in the 15 days following surgery. Researchers performed a retrospective cohort study in individuals undergoing TKA between January 2016 and December 2017 in an integrated health care system. This study recruited a sum of 621 individuals. The study noted that several predictors were correlated with longer duration and higher doses of opioid prescriptions post-TKA. Future study is required to determine the challenges of opioid prescribing from both the metropolitan surgical team and rural healthcare provider perspective.
