Predictive value of within-visit and visit-to-visit blood pressure variability for all-cause mortality: The Minhang Study
Journal of Hypertension Aug 19, 2021
Cai E, Chen L, Wang Y, et al. - In adults, significant positive prognostic factors for all-cause mortality include visit-to-visit and sustained high within-visit blood pressure variability.
A retrospective study with 11,721 adults.
Kaplan—Meier survival curves and Cox regression analysis were employed.
Significantly higher incidence of all-cause mortality was noted in participants in the top quintile of within-visit and visit-to-visit blood pressure variability and also for those with sustained high within-visit variability.
For the top quintile of visit-to-visit blood pressure variability, the hazard ratio for mortality rose from 48 to 55%.
For sustained high within-visit variability, such an estimate increased from 56 to 61%.
It is clinically significant to attain stable blood pressure in an effective plan of hypertension management.
