Predictive value of SNOT-22 on additional opiate prescriptions after endoscopic sinus surgery
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology May 08, 2018
Shen SA, et al. - Researchers determined the differences in both preoperative and immediate postoperative 22-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Test (SNOT-22) scores between patients with a single prescription and those requiring additional opiate prescriptions (AOPs) after endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS). They noted an increased risk of additional opiate prescription after surgery among patients reporting increased ear and facial symptoms at baseline. These patients could be recognized using preoperative SNOT-22 scores. After ESS, symptomatic improvement was noted among subjects in both cohorts; however, relative, not absolute, improvement in SNOT-22 scores is more predictive of AOP.
