Predictive value of pretreatment peripheral neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio for response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy and breast cancer prognosis
Cancer Management and Research Jul 31, 2021
Li X, Tan Q, Li H, et al. - Researchers investigated the association between neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and post-operative residual lymph node ratio (LNR), and their prognostic values in 282 breast cancer patients who received curative surgery following neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) from 2008 to 2018. All patients were observed from 2 to 116 months, with an average of 63 months. Among 74 patients with low NLR, pathological complete response (pCR) was achieved in 20 (27.0%) patients, and in the high NLR group, a pCR was achieved in 34 (16.3%) of 208 patients. Findings indicate that NLR may predict pCR rate, post-operative remaining lymph node involvement as well as overall survival in all patients who underwent NAC. Favorable results may be suggested by low NLR and LNR.
