Predictive value of HPV testing in self-collected and clinician-collected samples compared with cytology in detecting high-grade cervical lesions
Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention May 01, 2019
El-Zein M, et al. - Among 1217 women aged 16-70 years enrolled in the Cervical And Self-Sample In Screening study prior to scheduled colposcopies, researchers compared predictive values of HPV testing based on self- and physician- obtained samples, and cytology, in identifying high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia. The validated HerSwab device was used to self-collect vaginal specimens. The gynecologists collected cervical specimens. By the cobas 4800 HPV Test, they tested specimens for presence of high-risk HPV. Findings corroborated that the performance of HPV self-sampling was comparable to that of a physician-collected sample in identifying cervical lesions.
