Predictive value of free triiodothyronine (FT3) to free thyroxine (FT4) ratio in long-term outcomes of euthyroid patients with three-vessel coronary artery disease

Yuan D, Zhang C, Jia S, et al. - To clarify if high-risk people can be identified via routine evaluation of FT3 (free triiodothyronine)/FT4 (free thyroxine) ratio in euthyroid patients with three-vessel disease (3VD), researchers examined the link between FT3/FT4 ratio and long-term clinical results in this particular group. They analyzed a total of 2,106 euthyroid patients with 3VD (stenoses of ≥ 50% in right coronary artery, left circumflex and left anterior descending). Findings demonstrated an independent correlation of low level of FT3/FT4 ratio with an elevated risk of long-term cardiac death and MACCE (consisting of all-cause mortality, myocardial infarction, and stroke) in euthyroid patients with 3VD. Experts suggested the likely usefulness of routine evaluation of FT3/FT4 ratio in detecting high-risk persons in this specific population.
