Predictive value of basal cell carcinoma biopsies with negative margins: A retrospective cohort study
Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology Jan 10, 2018
Willardson HB, et al. - During this study, researchers attempted to identify the negative predictive value (NPV) of basal cell carcinoma (BCC) biopsy margin status on the absence of residual BCC in the corresponding excision. In a BCC biopsy, negative margins were discovered to be the poor predictor of residual disease. Clinicians were advised to treat these lesions. In addition, the pathologists who commented on margin status of BCC biopsies were recommended to consider the addition of a caveat to reflect these findings.
