Predictive risk factors for postoperative pneumonia after heart transplantation
BMC Anesthesiology Jan 13, 2020
Vidal C, Pasqualotto R, James A, et al. - Researchers performed this retrospective analysis of all patients undergoing heart transplantation (HTx) between January 2014 and December 2015, to determine the predictive risk factors for postoperative pneumonia (POP) in this patient population. Participants were 175 in total. There were 89 instances of POP were diagnosed in 59 (34%) patients. Experts employed univariate and multivariate Cox regression models to define risk factors. Following HTx, preoperative mechanical ventilation and blood transfusion were identified as factors that conferred risk for POP and were found to be related to increased mortality. The most commonly identified pathogens of POP were Enterobacteriaceae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
