Predictive power of novel and established obesity indices for outcome in PAD during a five-year follow-up
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Apr 10, 2020
Zierfuss B, et al. - This study was performed in a peripheral arterial disease (PAD) cohort to assess the predictive power of obesity as ascertained by established as well as new obesity indices (waist circumference, waist-hip ratio, body-mass index, body adiposity index, visceral adiposity index, weight-adjusted waist index) in this population. In an observational analysis, anthropometric parameters were obtained at study inclusion in 367 patients with diagnosed PAD. Experts obtained mortality data from the central death registry following five years. No significant difference was seen in obesity indices between the event and control group. In a secondary prevention cohort of PAD patients, findings revealed that mortality was not predicted by obesity as risk marker estimated by indices both for general as well as visceral adiposity.
