Predictive factors for perinatal outcomes of infants diagnosed with micrognathia antenatally

ENT Journal Jun 11, 2019

Tay SY, et al. - Researchers sought to identify predictive factors for a difficult airway at birth and review the perinatal outcomes of these patients. From a tertiary care hospital database, they examined 16 patients with antenatally diagnosed micrognathia for Jaw index, amniotic fluid index (AFI), glossoptosis, gastric size, and oropharynx obliteration. As per findings, a difficult airway could be predicted by Jaw index <5th percentile or abnormal AFI. At birth, a multidisciplinary approach with otolaryngology involvement for airway intervention may be needed.
