Predictive factors for patients undergoing ASD device occlusion who 'crossover' to surgery
Pediatric Cardiology Mar 03, 2018
Mulukutla V, et al. - During this research, authors intended to define the characteristics of patients who were referred for device closure of an atrial septal defect (ASD), but identified to “crossover” surgery. An ASD index greater than 23.7 exhibited a 90% specificity in “crossing over” to surgery when the device and “crossover” groups were compared. In contrast with the device group, the crossover and surgical groups displayed statistically larger ASD defect size indexes. A connection was brought to light between deficient rim in the posterior/inferior rim with a large ASD size index which appeared to be a predictive factor for crossing over to surgery. Data demonstrated that catheterization did not exert a negative influence on the surgical results in the “crossover” group.
