Predictive associations among the repeated measurements of anxiety, depression, and craving in a dual diagnosis program
Journal of Dual Diagnosis Apr 18, 2019
Wolitzky-Taylor K, et al. - The correlations among craving, anxiety, and depression in a dual diagnosis program were examined. At a community-based dual diagnosis program for substance use disorders and comorbid anxiety and mood disorders, daily ratings of anxiety and depression from 93 adult patients were analyzed. After assessing day-to-day change over time by using hierarchical linear modeling, they noted unique and independent predictive value of ratings for anxiety and depression for ensuing craving ratings, and ratings of craving for ensuing anxiety and depression ratings. Mutual maintenance models of substance use and psychiatric comorbidity were thus supported in this preliminary work, offering support for integrated programs that address both substance use and mood disorders at the same time.
