Prediction of the depth of invasion in superficial pharyngeal cancer: Microvessel morphological evaluation with narrowband imaging
Head & Neck Sep 11, 2019
Eguchi K, et al. - Because magnifying endoscopy with narrowband imaging (ME-NBI) is helpful in anticipating the invasion depth by analyzing the microvascular status of tumor surfaces, researchers determined its effectiveness in pharyngeal cancer. Fifty-nine lesions from 46 patients who had transoral resection were retrospectively analyzed between April 2016 and March 2018. According to findings, there was an important correlation between microvascular status and depth of invasion. A significant association was noted between microvascular status and invasion depth in previously treated lesions. Even in patients with previously treated lesions, ME-NBI is helpful in anticipating the invasion depth and thickness of pharyngeal tumors.
