Prediction of short-term surgical complications in women undergoing pelvic exenteration for gynecological malignancies
Gynecologic Oncology Nov 14, 2018
Tortorella L, et al. - Researchers evaluated pre-operative predictors of 30-day major surgical complications in patients undergoing pelvic exenteration (PE) for gynecologic cancer in a single institution between 01/2004–12/2016. They reviewed demographics and surgical characteristics of these patients. They used the Accordion grading system to grade postoperative complications within 30 days following surgery. Analysis of potential risk factors for severe postoperative complications was carried out using logistic regression. They commonly reported major complications after exenteration. A considerable role of surgical complexity and patient selection as predictors of complications was shown in the study. A better risk stratification of patients undergoing PE could be achieved by using these data.
