Prediction of postpercutaneous coronary intervention myocardial infarction: Insights from intravascular imaging, coronary flow, and biomarker evaluation
Coronary Artery Disease Apr 16, 2018
Hoole SP, et al. - Researchers tried to establish if the risk of percutaneous coronary intervention-induced myocardial infarction (PMI) could be predicted by preprocedural demographic, interventional (plaque characteristics and coronary microcirculatory function), and inflammatory, endothelial damage, and platelet-derived biomarker data. Individuals with a subsequent PMI had lower preprocedural coronary flow reserve. There was also increased likelihood of sustaining PMI in patients with higher pre-PCI index of microcirculatory resistance, although neither was predictive after multivariate analysis. An increased risk of PMI was suggested in women and those with low BMI, especially when related to high interleukin (IL)-8 and low IL-18 levels.
