Predicting symptom relief after reoperation for suspected internal herniation after laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass
Obesity Surgery Jul 21, 2018
Wijngaarden LH, et al. - In this multicentre cohort study, possible predictive factors for relief of symptoms were investigated in patients with suspected internal herniation (IH) after laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (LRYGB). From June 2009 to December 2016, researchers retrospectively evaluated all patients that underwent reoperation for (suspected) IH after LRYGB. Findings suggest that it is unpredictable to determine pain relief after closure of the mesenteric defects for IH. They identified a positive computed tomography for IH to forecast symptom relief after reoperation for (suspected) IH after LRYGB. However, closure of the mesenteric defects often benefits patients irrespective of perioperative presence of IH.
