Predicting portal thrombosis in cirrhosis: A prospective study of clinical, ultrasonographic and hemostatic factors
Journal of Hepatology Aug 02, 2021
Turon F, Driever EG, Baiges A, et al. - In a large prospective cohort of patients with cirrhosis, researchers sought to assess the incidence and risks factors for non-tumoral portal vein thrombosis (PVT) development. Three hundred sixty-nine patients with cirrhosis without PVT who had an extensive clinical, biochemical, inflammatory, and acquired and hereditary hemostatic profile were included and prospectively followed up on. Factors related to the severity of portal hypertension are the main predictors of PVT development in patients with cirrhosis. The findings do not support the role of hemostatic alterations (inherited or acquired) and inflammatory markers in predicting PVT in cirrhosis.
