Predicting inflammatory bowel disease in children with abdominal pain and diarrhoea: Calgranulin-C vs calprotectin stool tests
Archives of Diseases in Childhood Mar 15, 2018
Heida A, et al. - Authors herein pursued a comparative investigation of the calgranulin-C and calprotectin in order to ascertain which of the two tests best predicted inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in children with chronic abdominal pain and diarrhoea. It was disclosed that calgranulin-C presented with notably better specificity than calprotectin when predefined thresholds were used. Nonetheless, both tests performed equally well when receiver operating characteristics (ROC)-based thresholds were used. Hence, the inference drawn was that both calgranulin-C and calprotectin demonstrated excellent test characteristics to predict IBD and justify endoscopy.
