Predicting 6-month mortality for older adults hospitalized with acute myocardial infarction: A cohort study
Annals of Internal Medicine Dec 18, 2019
Dodson JA, Hajduk AM, Geda M, et al. - In this prospective cohort study performed in 94 hospitals throughout the United States of 3,006 people aged 75 years or older who were hospitalized with AMI and discharged alive, experts intended to generate and assess the prognostic use of a risk model for 6-month post-AMI mortality in elderly people that includes data about functional impairments. The final risk model involved 15 variables, four of which were not incorporated in former risk models ie, hearing impairment, mobility impairment, weight loss, and lower patient-reported health status. The model was well calibrated and it exhibited good discrimination. Thus, for 6-month post-AMI mortality in elderly people, a newly developed model was well calibrated and had a good discriminatory capacity. Thus, in decision making at hospital discharge, this model could be beneficial.
