Predicting 2‐year all‐cause mortality after contemporary PCI: Updating the logistic clinical SYNTAX score
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Feb 12, 2021
Chichareon P, van Klaveren D, Modolo R, et al. - Researchers intended to update the logistic clinical SYNTAX score for the prediction of 2 year all‐cause death following contemporary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). A total of 15,883 patients in the GLOBAL LEADERS study who received PCI were examined. Experts updated the logistic clinical SYNTAX model after imputing missing values by refitting the original model (refitted original model) as well as fitting an extended new model (new model, with, selection based on the Akaike Information Criterion). For external validation, they used 10,100 patients receiving PCI at Fu Wai hospital. Additional independent predictors of 2 year all‐cause death, which were incorporated into the new model, were: chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, prior stroke, current smoker, hemoglobin level, and white blood cell count. Based on findings, a better prediction of 2 year all‐cause mortality post-PCI was provided by the new model of the logistic clinical SYNTAX score vs the original model. With the help of the new model, patients receiving PCI can be risk stratified and thus guidance regarding clinical decision making could be provided.
