Prediagnostic proinflammatory dietary potential is associated with all-cause mortality among African-American women with high-grade serous ovarian carcinoma
The Journal of Nutrition Jun 12, 2019
Peres LC, et al. - Among African-American women with ovarian carcinoma (a population with poor survival), researchers assessed all-cause death in relation to diet-associated inflammation, a modifiable source of chronic systemic inflammation measured by the dietary inflammatory index. From enrollees in the African-American Cancer Epidemiology Study, 490 ovarian carcinoma patients with data available were examined. Women with a median age of 57 y were included, the majority being obese (58%). The women included had late-stage disease (Stage III or IV, 66%), and had high-grade serous carcinoma (64%). A possible adverse influence of greater inflammatory potential of prediagnostic diet on prognosis was observed among African-American women with high-grade serous carcinoma, and particularly among ever smokers.
